Alma Löv Museum, Värmland 2008

The Alma Löv museum consists of 16 pavilions in an idyllic Swedish landscape.
All pavilions are very different in form and expression and pop up like mushrooms when you trudge through the small forest. Among the chirping of birds you could hear a low sound of music coming from a rusty shipping container. Inside the container, it was so dark that you couldn’t see anything. But soon, you could glimpse a small "figure" that moved to the music on the other end of the container.

When I was 14 years old, I was involved in a confirmation group. Confirmation was something that most people did where I grew up. One day we discussed good and evil. Our confirmation leaders had rented the movie "The Silence of the Lambs." When I think back now, I can’t remember the movie so well. But I remember a scene and I remember how I thought with horror "is that what my desire to be a girl is leading me to become?"

In the container, there was a replica of the room from that scene, built at the scale of a dollhouse. In the middle of the dollhouse room there was a video sequence of me dancing like the serial killer Buffalo Bill is doing in that scene. The way in which it was built, the room and the video sequence looked completely three-dimensional. If you became close enough, you were blinded by an extremely bright flash. Afterward, a still image of me appeared on your retina that lasted for about 10 minutes and wouldn't go away even when you closed your eyes.

The work is given to Marc and Karin, who have the museum and can be seen in the summer of 2009. For the opening times check http://web.telia.com/~u56509541/
